Our Responsibility

It has always been clear that the responsibility of caring for the neglected has rested on the churches. Churches should step up and take charge of the caring for the widow, orphans and the homeless that fill our towns and cities. We are all "one body" and together we make up "the church". We can no longer stand by and let churches and the governments get rich while ignoring the needs of the very people we are commanded by God to protect. God puts so much regard on the caring for the weakest, most vulnerable, of our society that if we are to call ourselves "Christians" then it is our obligation to make sure that we are not only generous in our offerings and giving to the church but we must be assured that the offerings are being use for more than just running a building or paying wages to a pastor-ship. It is to be used for the uplifting and support of the helpless.
Let us be able to pray and tell our Father that we have kept His commands just as His righteous have done long before us. "I have removed from my house the sacred portion and have given it to the Levite, the alien, the fatherless (orphaned) and the widow, according to all you commanded. I have not turned aside from your commands nor have I forgotten any of them." Deuteronomy 26:13 (NIV)
"Let us more and more insist on raising funds of love, of kindness, of understanding, of peace."
- Mother Teresa, Albanian Roman Catholic missionary in India
Ask Yourself... What if?
• What if a sick widow with little or no food had a woman show up to her house with a weeks worth of groceries and made her dinner?
• What if a little girl that had been being teased by the kids at school because of her clothes and that she “smelled funny” and a caring widow showed up one night and saw to it that she had a hot bath and clean clothes to wear?
• What if a woman with no money in dire need of medicine and care has someone take her to the doctor and buy her prescriptions?
• What if a little boy who had never seen a school basketball game because his Mom has no car and one night a good man shows up and takes him to see a game?
• What if a little girl was in terrible need of dental work and no one was there to see that she saw a dentist?
• What if a widow who can’t afford to get her glasses fixed received a free trip to the eye doctor and new glasses?
• What if a child that felt worthless and alone was shown honor and given praises?
• What if a cold and dying heart was shown the love, mercy and the light of Jesus?
• What if your simple act of kindness changed the course of someone’s life? What if...?
Esther 4:14 says: “…Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” That was Esther’s question to answer in her day… it is our question to answer in ours…we have been placed in this time in history, in this country, in this state, in this county, in this building, “For such a time as this”!
